Student information · Pilot

Attendance, grades, lesson plans and report cards in one place.

Rostra Scholar is the academic record for a K-8 school: attendance, the gradebook, lesson planning, report cards, the student file and a family page, designed for a small office that handles many roles.

A student information system is difficult to leave once you choose it. Scholar keeps your data portable from the first day.

A typical day with Scholar

How your team uses it throughout the day.

  1. 7:30 am

    Planning the week

The teacher reviews the week’s lessons in the planner, with today highlighted.

  2. 8:05 am

    Attendance

Attendance takes one tap per student, and the office can see which rooms have finished.

  3. 10:52 am

    A student goes home

When the nurse sends a student home, attendance updates automatically and notes the health office as the source.

  4. 1:40 pm

    Entering grades

The teacher enters a set of scores quickly using only the keyboard.

  5. 7:15 pm

    Families check in

Parents review grades, attendance and missing work from their phones.

Replaces

  • Separate systems for grades and attendance

Features

Everything listed here is available today.

Attendance

One tap per student

A homeroom of twenty-five takes less than a minute. Attendance works offline and syncs when the connection returns.

Missing attendance flagged

The office sees which sections have not taken attendance yet, before families begin to call.

Corrections preserve the record

A correction supersedes the original mark, and both remain on the record.

Absence notes from families

Families submit an absence reason from the family page. Once the office accepts it, the absence is marked excused.

Day counts from your calendar

Instructional days, half days, closures and in-service days are counted from your own school calendar.

Gradebook and lesson planner

Flexible grading

Each class can use points, weighted categories or standards, since different grades and subjects grade differently.

Fast grade entry

Enter a score and press Enter to move to the next student, without reaching for the mouse.

Averages explained

See how an average is calculated, category by category, including work not yet graded.

Missing work stays visible

Missing work is shown as missing rather than as a zero until the teacher decides otherwise.

A weekly lesson planner

Plan the week by day and class, and move every lesson forward with one click when school closes unexpectedly.

Substitute plans and seating charts

Each section keeps its routines and a seating chart for anyone covering the class.

Report cards

Marks suggested from the gradebook

The teacher reviews and decides each mark. Once posted, a mark can only be changed with a documented reason.

Completion tracking

The office sees which teachers and sections still owe grades while there is time to follow up.

A shared comment bank

Teachers and the office share comments, with each student’s first name and pronouns filled in.

Consistent reprints

Each report card records the data it was built from, so a reprint years later matches the original.

Promotion and retention review

Review each student’s placement for the coming year. A retention cannot be recorded without a reason.

Student records

Access checked every time

The office sees the whole school, teachers see students in their own sections, and families see their own children.

Custody and contact orders enforced

A guardian without educational rights sees nothing, and no-contact orders are displayed prominently on the record.

Households and emergency contacts

Record who lives where, who may pick up, who receives mail, and who to call in an emergency.

Nothing is deleted

Records are withdrawn, archived or superseded, never erased.

Every view is logged

Rostra records who opened each student record, when, and under which permission.

Families and the office

A family page anyone can use

Families see grades, attendance and missing work, excuse absences and message teachers from a phone.

Absence notices and a weekly summary

Each guardian chooses which updates to receive, and families with nothing new receive nothing.

A daily watchlist

Each morning Rostra reviews attendance, grades and behavior together and lists the students who may need attention.

Saved student lists

Save a filtered list of students and reuse it as a report, a spreadsheet or an email audience.

Admissions and re-enrollment

Move an inquiry onto the roster without retyping it, and gather re-enrollment responses in time to plan next year’s classes.

What it does not do

Clear limits, so your school knows exactly what to expect.

  • Scholar is in pilot at one school and is not on the price list yet. We want it proven in daily use before offering it more widely.
  • It does not handle cafeteria point of sale, bus routing or payroll. It keeps lunch balances and prints family statements.
  • It does not lock your data in. OneRoster, Google Classroom and state files export with one click, using your own identifiers.
  • It does not store payment card numbers. Schools that accept card payments continue to use their existing processor.
